A Calling to Care: Robin Jones and The Power of 26!

By Chanel Carmichael

Robin Jones has spent more than 30 years walking beside patients as they heal and rebuild their lives. Her journey began in 1989 as a college student working as a rehabilitation technician, and today she continues that same mission as a Compliance Coordinator and licensed physical therapist at Scotland Health Care System’s Rehabilitation Center. But for Robin, healthcare has never been just a career; it is a calling shaped by both her work and her firsthand experiences.

She has been a loyal donor and supporter of Scotland Memorial Foundation since 2010. Robin has given to campaigns like The Future Starts Here for Women’s Services, always believing in the power of investing in her community. Now, through the associate giving campaign The Power of 26!, Robin is once again stepping forward—this time in support of the Cancer Treatment Center Expansion.

Her reason is simple. Cancer is not something Robin has only seen with her patients; it is something her family has experienced. Robin has watched loved ones face diagnoses with courage. Her grandfather and father both battled prostate cancer. Her mother and a sibling were diagnosed with skin cancer. And then there was her sister, Johanna.

Johanna fought colon cancer with determination. Even as the disease progressed, she held on to hope. But in 2019, her battle ended. That loss left a lasting mark on Robin’s life. She understood how vital compassionate, high-quality care closer to home truly was—not just for patients, but for the families who stand beside them.

In honor of her mother, Annie Pearl Cummings, and in loving memory of her sister, Johanna Moore, Robin chose to give to the Cancer Center Expansion—so that others in the community can receive the same care, support, and comfort when they need it most.

“Supporting the Cancer Center Expansion is more than a contribution—it’s a promise,” Robin says. “A promise that no one in our community has to face cancer alone.”

Breaking Barriers Close to Home

Across our rural service area, access to healthcare comes with unique challenges. Many of the communities we serve face barriers such as limited transportation, and for some, financial strain. For patients diagnosed with cancer, these challenges can quickly become overwhelming. Robin sees these realities every day.

“We have folks that cannot travel or have the means to own a car or the money to pay someone to take them to a cancer treatment center,” she explains. “Our staff work hard to reduce those barriers,” Robin says. “We are breaking them down to provide the care patients need.” She notes that Scotland Health Care System is committed to expanding the Scotland Cancer Treatment Center to ensure more patients across its service area have access to high-quality care close to home.

Leading by Example

Robin believes that giving back is not just something you do—it is something you show.

Through The Power of 26!, Scotland Health Care System associates are invited to make a meaningful impact together. Robin’s participation is more than a donation; it is about leading the way.

“If I don’t give, someone may not give,” she shares.
“We are an example of giving. People will see that we love our hospital so much that we give a portion of what we have earned back to it.”

Her words are both a reflection and a challenge. Associates are not just caregivers or providers—they are ambassadors of compassion. When they give, they send a powerful message: we believe in this place, and we believe in what it can become.

Building a Legacy of Care

What excites Robin most about the expansion is the future it will create.

A future where more physicians are drawn to the community.
A future where patients do not have to leave home to receive life-saving treatment.
A future where the standard of care continues to rise.

But even more than that, she is thinking about the legacy.

“You have to know where you come from to get to where you need to be,” she says. “When people look back, they will see how far we’ve come.”

She envisions future staff and patients walking through the expanded center, seeing not just a building—but a story. A story of a community that came together. A story of caregivers who gave beyond their roles. A story of hope made real through action.

The Power Is Ours

Robin’s story is one of dedication, resilience, and love. It is also a reminder.

Every gift, no matter the size, carries power.
The power to ease a family’s burden.
The power to honor those we have loved and lost.
The power to change what is possible for our community.

That is The Power of 26!

And through her giving, Robin Jones is showing what that power looks like in action.

The question now is simple:
Will you join her?
